Designated replacement for dall-e-2/dall-e-3 (retired May 12, 2026) and, per OpenAI's deprecations page, for gpt-image-1-mini and gpt-image-1.5 (shutdown Dec 1, 2026). It was OpenAI's flagship image model until 2026-09-08, when GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and Flare launched at the same token rates; as of 2026-09-26 OpenAI's pricing page lists it among the collapsed older image models. OpenAI has declared no deprecation for it.
